Everyone tells me they want AI in reconciliation.
But I am not convinced everyone knows what they’re actually asking for.
Recently, we asked 23 of the leading reconciliation vendors globally a simple question:
What do you actually use AI for in your product?
The answers were…eye-opening in the diversity of application.
Some use AI, ML and/or NLP for:
- data ingestion and enrichment
- exception classification
- report generation
- rule suggestions
👉 Only one uses AI for matching itself.
That’s usually not what buyers expect. And this is where I see the disconnect.
Most organisations say they want “AI”, but what they really want is:
ROI
AI might help — but where you apply it matters far more than whether it exists.
So the real buyer question is not: “Which vendor has the best AI?”
It is: “Which part of our reconciliation process are we actually ready for AI to touch?”
And that answer is different for every organisation.
